At a recent breakfast hosted by Grayfeather Consulting in Cape Town, the discussion focused on the Digital Organisation. Examples from the business world like UBER and AMAZON show that all business will need to have a digital strategy in the near future or face possible obsolescence.
Many make the mistake to think that the digital strategy means having some customer facing technology like a website or an online catalogue, but the digital organisation is a totally new type of entity. In the digital business, leadership styles, culture, organisational designs and management methods all differ from the traditional style organisation that we all are familiar with. And this means a huge impact on and responsibility for HR. Josh Bersin describes the role of HR in the Digital Organisation in the following way:
Research found that one of the defining characteristics of the highest-performing HR teams is that they lead the digital transformation. “Leading” means understanding how leadership changes, developing the skills needed, helping with hiring, and working to design the digital organization and digital culture. If you are in a midsize to large organization, this must be high on your priority list for the coming year.
